CUSACK BACK IN ACTION AT LAST

- By GARY HEATLY

HIGHLY-RATED Glasgow Warriors prop Mike Cusack is set to make his first appearance at Scotstoun in 26 months tonight against the Scarlets following a torrid time with injury and illness. The Yorkshireman, who is Scottish-qualified, made a fine start to his career at the club in the 2011/12 season, but since then he has been sidelined. He did play some matches in early 2014 before another setback and the player himself, plus head coach Gregor Townsend, will hope that this is the start of a settled run of action. Prior to Christmas he managed to get some game time in the BT Premiership with Currie, while he played part of the ‘A’ match against Edinburgh. Tonight the 30-year-old forms a new front-row line-up with Pat MacArthur and Jerry Yanuyanutawa — with the trio replacing Gordon Reid, Dougie Hall and Jon Welsh. Townsend said: ‘It’s great to be able to welcome back Mike Cusack for the match. He’s shown a lot of courage over the last couple of seasons and his hard work has been rewarded with a place in the team.’ There are six changes to the Glasgow starting line-up for the Guinness Pro12 encounter, with the three new front-row men being joined in the XV by second-row Tim Swinson, back-row Leone Nakarawa and winger Sean Lamont. GLASGOW: P Murchie; T Seymour, A Dunbar, P Horne, S Lamont; F Russell, N Matawalu; J Yanuyanutawa, P MacArthur, M Cusack, T Swinson, J Gray, L Nakarawa, J Strauss (capt), R Wilson. Subs: F Brown, R Grant, E Murray, J Eddie, A Price, J Downey, DTH van der Merwe.
