PRINCE Charles is such an admirer of Robert Burns that he was once recorded reciting the Scot’s poems for the BBC. And next week, he is holding a Burns Night supper at his country home Highgrove, where guests can pay £95 each for a black-tie dinner and toast Scotland’s favourite son with whisky and haggis (both organic, of course). However, the event will be missing one vital ingredient — the prince himself. Sources say Charles will almost certainly have his own Burns Night elsewhere.

PRIZE-WINNING equestrian Edieie Campbell usually has no problem navigating countryry highways and byways, even en accepting an award from actoror Tom Cruise after winning thee Goodwood Ladies Race last August. But she seems less adept at handling her car.

The 24-year-old model had to abandon the vehicle after driving it into a ford. Her boyfriend Otis Ferry, son of singer Bryan Ferry, posted a photograph of the vehicle online, captioning it: ‘I know my girlfriend’s a model but but...’. . .’ He added: ‘She may take my advice and get a 4x4 next time!’ Edie joked in response: ‘I just assumed that Audis could swim . . . Isn’t that what “Vorsprung durch Technik” means?’

Just last month Otis’s younger brother Merlin was seriously hurt in a head-on collision in Shropshire.

‘ClUNKY’ and ‘clueless’ were two words used to describe Jon Conway’s ‘docuplay’ Truth, lies and Diana, which implies James Hewitt is Prince Harry’s father. so no surprise that before the curtain has even gone up, producers are struggling to sell tickets. Meanwhile, Conway dispels a rumour that the play was financed by Mohamed al-Fayed. ‘i was thorough in ensuring that we did not receive any money from any interested parties,’ he tells me.
