Girl kidnapped as a baby in 1997 is reunited with family
A GIRL kidnapped as a baby 18 years ago has been reunited with her parents after she ended up going to a school with one of her biological sisters.
Zephany Nurse was t aken from hospital by a stranger on April 30, 1997 – just two days after her birth, as her mother Celeste had a nap.
She believed the couple who raised her were her parents, but schoolfriends began pointing out the strong similarities between her and classmate Cassidy Nurse.
Zephany’s father Morne never lost hope that she was alive, and when his daughter Cassidy told him of a girl who looked just like her, he invited Zephany – who had been given a different name – round for tea.
He then called police and a DNA test confirmed the girl was his daughter. In fact, she had been living a couple of miles away.
A woman was arrested and has appeared in court over the kidnapping in Cape Town, South Africa.
The suspect and her husband, in his fifties, have no other children.
