Head threatens legal action if parents criticise school online

-

PARENTS have been warned they face criminal charges or defamation proceedings if they post negative social media comments about a Scottish primary school.

Craigie Primary acting headteacher Angela Thomson told parents she had already called in lawyers in connection with ‘detrimental comments’ made about the Perth school.

One mother said she was shocked by the tone of a letter sent out by Mrs Thomson and thought it was a ‘massive over-reaction’. She said: ‘It contains a dire warning to parents that they will be prosecuted. Maybe some people have been posting things online that they shouldn’t, but surely the school should be havi ng a quiet word with those people.’

Last night Perth and Kinross Council defended the actions. It said: ‘We would always ask that parents and carers raise concerns with the headteacher of their child’s school directly first, so that we can resolve any issues together.’
