BOSS’S SALUTE FOR WALKER

- By ALAN DOUGLAS

HEARTS manager Robbie Neilson insists Jamie Walker’s increased work ethic has put him on the road to stardom, after lauding the precocious winger as his most technically gifted player. The 21-year-old has scored five times in his last seven games and shown a distinct improvement in his fitness. Neilson believes the arrival of Walker’s first child in December has focused his mind and put him on course to fulfil his potential. And he revealed that midfielder Miguel Pallardo — who came through the ranks at Valencia alongside the likes of David Silva and Raul Albiol — also believes Walker has the world at his feet. ‘I spoke to Jamie in pre-season about where I believe he can get to in football and what he needs to do that,’ said Neilson. ‘He can play wide or as a No 10. He is probably the best technical player we have. ‘He is a father now and that has given him a focus to push himself as far as he can go. ‘Stevie Crawford (Hearts’ assistant head coach) spoke to Miguel about Jamie and he was raving about him.’ Walker’s more immediate challenge is to continue his fine form against visitors Cowdenbeath today. Meanwhile, Hibs are looking to keep their revival going at Alloa and defender Paul Hanlon insists the club’s strikers have lifted a huge burden off the defence this season. Hibs have netted 50 times in 25 games this season, with Dominique Malonga and Jason Cummings on 13 and 12 respectively. ‘We believe our strikers will do their job,’ said Hanlon. ‘So we need to keep it tight at the back. It’s a good combination.’
