FURY AT SNP’S SWITCH-OFF REQUEST

PEOPLE are being kept waiting more than 12 hours in A&E, but Health Secretary Shona Robison has written to doctors to ask them to switch off their lights.

Miss Robison has asked NHS staff to support Earth Hour on March 28, when people will show they care about the planet by turning out their lights for an hour.

At least one doctor in the Highlands has reportedly criticised the message, suggesting he might ask Miss Robison if she wishes him to ‘switch off a vaccine fridge or a ventilator’.

The email comes after latest figures show that in January alone more than 700 patients were trapped in emergency units for the equivalent of a whole day.

A Scottish Government spokesman said: ‘Public bodies have a vital role to play in reducing carbon emissions.’
