Bid to stop Hendry’s house plans snookered
SNOOKER star Stephen Hendry has won a battle with neighbours over plans to build a multi-millionpound housing development in the back garden of his mansion.
The Edinburgh-born seven-time world champion wants to convert horse fields behind his house in Auchterarder, Perthshire into 11 luxury homes with his neighbour Alexander Birnie.
However, the plans upset some residents in the upmarket village, who fear the homes will invade their privacy and spoil the natural beauty of the area.
Hendry, 46, left the family home last year after splitting from his wife, Mandy, but still owns the land.
The development was originally given the go-ahead in 2012, but construction never started because of the decline in the housing market.
Renewed plans, submitted to Perth and Kinross Council last month by Mr Birnie’s company, Craigmount Developments, have been given the green light.
In an objection letter sent to the council, neighbour Colin Campbell s aid: ‘ You have requested comments from property owners bordering this development. What is the point?
‘Your department has already rubber-stamped every housing development plan for Auchterarder in recent years, with little or no consideration given to the impact on schooling, town parking, medical services or shopping facilities.’
