Bremner jibe sours BBC boss’s night out
RONA FAIRHEAD, the BBC Trust chair who supported calls for her own abolition this week, was the butt of jokes from Rory Bremner at a BBC Comedy showcase in Notting Hill.
The satirist told an audience including Fairhead, Richard Curtis, Tracey Ullman and David Jason: ‘From now on all BBC promotional videos will be outsourced to Isis.’
After a sharp intake of breath from t he audience, impressionist Bremner continued: ‘Try getting that one through the BBC Trust. Or the HSBC Trust as the chairwoman calls it.’ Mrs Fairhead shrugged off the acid reference to her £10,000-aday role at the scandal-hit bank, which MPs are set to quiz her over next week.
Instead, she made a beeline for Ullman, who is returning to the BBC nearly 30 years after launching a U.S. career.
‘She is comedy royalty,’ Mrs Fairhead gushed.
As opposed to the royal farce that is the BBC Trust.
