TODAY’S highlights on the digital pop-up station RADIO 2 COUNTRY include Bob Harris at 3pm, interviewi­ng the reigning queen of country music, Miranda Lambert and Simon Mayo at 4pm, playing country music film soundtrack­s. Sally Boazman takes a turn at the wheel at 5pm, exploring country music’s obsession with pick-up trucks, cars and dirt roads.

THE afternoon play, THE MARK (RADIO 4, 2.15PM), stars Matthew McNulty as Dean, a young policeman promoted to the Fraud Squad. He feels he’s now on the right career path and that his prospects are good. Then, Dean begins to realise that he’s been duped and his life is about to fall apart.

SCHUBERT’S Symphony No 9 wasn’t given a proper public performanc­e until ten years after the composer’s

death. One of the reasons was the strain the work puts on the woodwind and string players. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra tackles this mighty work for

tonight’s LIVE IN CONCERT (RADIO 3, 7.30PM).

n TENOR Alfie Boe gives us a selection of songs with an Italian flavour for FRIDAY NIGHT IS MUSIC NIGHT

(RADIO 2, 8PM). Alfie (pictured) includes Mambo Italiano, Volare and Buona Sera in his selection. The male vocal group Collabro perform songs from Chess, Les Miserables and Frozen, and trumpet player Matilda Lloyd is also on the show.
