PLANT AUTUMN RASPBERRIES

-

THERE’s still time to plant raspberry canes. home-grown raspberries are delicious and, for small gardens, autumn cropping varieties are your best bet.

Their first fruits ripen as early as August, but can continue to produce delicious fresh raspberries until late october. The best varieties include the old but highly dependable Autumn Bliss and its wonderful yellowfruited sport, All Gold.

They may look odd, but this variety has excellent flavour and is immune from bird attack.

Newer varieties include big juicy Polka and plump-fruited Joan J, whose stems are prickle-free.

You still have time to order autumn raspberry canes from specialist suppliers such as Pomona Fruits ( pomonafruits.co.uk) or chris Bowers ( chrisbowers.co.uk).
