Disappointing return for DFS

DFS returned to the London stock market yesterday after an absence of more than a decade – but it failed to catch the imagination of investors.

The Doncaster-based sofa business, which has 105 stores in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands, started trading at 255p a share.

That was at the bottom end of the indicated price range of 245p to 310p and valued the company at £543m. It was rumoured to be targeting a value of £1bn earlier in the year. The shares spiked to 270p in the first few minutes of trading but closed unchanged at 255p.

Retail analyst Nick Bubb said it is hard to describe the listing as ‘a success’ given the price.
