will be spared strict SNP proposals to keep new Westminster MPs on a tight leash.

A motion at the party conference later this month will warn new members they must ‘treat the position as a full-time commitment’.

But a party spokesman confirmed that Mr Salmond, who is standing in Gordon, will continue to be an MSP until the next Scottish election and will still write two newspaper columns.
