HE is known for remaining tightlipped about his personal life.

Yet Andy Murray seemed only too happy to let slip details about what his Davis Cup team-mate might have been getting up to off court during a TV interview.

Asked how the team would celebrate following victory over the United States yesterday, Murray replied that Dominic Inglot has a ‘little girlfriend on the go here in Glasgow’, where they had been playing.

Unfortunately f or Inglot, he already has a girlfriend of six months at home in London.

When Eurosport presenter Annabel Croft asked for the name of the lady in question, a mortified Inglot said: ‘You’ve actually landed me in this. Because I actually have

a girlfriend [who’s] going to be watching this.’

A source close to the team said Murray, 27, was unaware Inglot, 29, had a girlfriend and did not know that the joke would backfire.

But a spokesman for the Lawn Tennis Association dismissed the stitch-up as ‘pure banter’ and ‘just a bunch of guys messing around’.

Last night Inglot was said to be seeing t he f unny si de of t he episode after smoothing things over with his girlfriend, who has not been named, and flying straight back to London.

Great Britain yesterday celebrated a 3-2 victory over the US to reach the quarter finals of the Davis Cup.
