A Jagger act and a TV reject … It’s our Eurovision entry, 2015!

THE UK has produced international stars such as Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran.

But when it comes to Eurovision, the BBC seems to think our best chances lie with a Mick Jagger tribute and a reality television reject.

For newly-formed duo Electro Velvet has beaten ‘hundreds’ of hopefuls to perform at the song contest’s 60th anniversary in Vienna.

The group consists of 35-year-old Alex Larke – lead singer of a Rolling Stones tribute band – and Bianca Nicholas, 26, who failed to make it through the blind auditions in the last series of The Voice.

The pair had never performed together live before being chosen to sing at the Eurovision final on May 23.

Their 1920s-inspired song Still In Love With You was revealed on Saturday by the BBC, which selects Britain’s entrant following an ‘open application process’. However the track was met with mixed reactions.

While one viewer declared it ‘my favourite UK entry in years’, Sherlock star Mark Gatiss tweeted: ‘Just heard our Eurovision entry. Doomed again.’

The UK has only scored in the Eurovision top ten once in the past decade, and hasn’t won since 1997.
