Meeting the face behind the stamp

HE spent most of his working days surrounded by tiny prints of the Queen’s profile.

And today, the boxing champion and former postie Charlie Flynn, pictured, of Newarthill, Lanarkshire, will actually get to meet her. The Commonwealth Games 2014 gold medallist has been invited to attend a special royal event in London, hosted by Her Majesty.

The 21-year-old Scot, who was a hit at the Games with his ‘Lanarkshire lip’, said: ‘This is a big deal for me because I’ve never met Her Majesty before but I’d like to think it won’t be the last time. It’s a real thrill and I’m really looking forward to it.’

He said he will wear a kilt in Black Watch tartan.
