DELIA, a suburban housewife, impulsivel­y walks out on her family while they’re all on holiday. She exiles herself to a small town and starts her life over again. Nancy Crane and Ian Conningham star in LADDER OF YEARS (RADI0 4, 10.45AM, 7.45PM) a ten-part adaptation of an unsettling Anne Tyler novel from 1995.

THERE’S some wonderful writing in this two-hander, KINGDOM OF CLOUD (RADIO 4, 2.15PM) starring Neil Pearson and AnneMarie Duff, about a couple in crisis. Juliet, realising that their marriage is under pressure, wants to persuade her husband to take a trip to Barcelona. Daniel, however, has other worries. He is edgy, refuses to answer the constantly ringing phone, and wonders how he can tell his wife about the deep trouble he’s in.

DAVID MORRISSEY joined the Liverpool Everyman Youth Theatre when he was 14. Roger Hill, a striking figure with multicolou­red mohican hair, was running the youth theatre, and was an inspiratio­n to David (pictured) and his contempora­ries. In MAN WITH THE MOHICAN (RADIO 4, 4PM), David recalls those days, and meets up with Roger.

MELANIE C celebrates the formidable Ivy Benson, who ran her all-girl band from 1939 to 1982. SAX APPEAL . . . (RADIO 2, 10PM) focuses on Ivy’s career from 1950 onward.
