How to clean up with hard work and a touch of sparkle
If you take pleasure in adding a sparkle to the world, a maintenance and cleaning franchise might well suit you.
Terry Taggart, an oven Wizards franchisee, says: ‘There’s real job satisfaction in cleaning ovens. on one job the customer told me her oven looked better than it had for ten years.’
Terry, a former regional manager in joinery, chose the franchise because he wanted to see more of his grandchildren. He says: ‘I know I could have set up in business for myself, but I like it that the franchisor helps me with my marketing and that there’s a network of other franchisees to talk to.’
He advises others considering taking on maintenance and cleaning franchises: ‘Choose a franchisor you trust. And trust is important in home maintenance — customers must trust you to come into their homes and do a good job.’
Mark Abbott, oven Wizard’s franchisor, says: ‘We welcome people from other careers because they bring with t hem a wealth of experience. We also find they usually have the drive and a resilience to succeed and do well.’ franchisees need an investment of £12, 500.
Not all cleaning franchisees are hands- on cleaners. Molly Maid f r anchisees manage t eams of cleaners so the franchisor looks for people skills.
‘ you don’t need cleaning or management experience, but you must be able to get on with customers and teams of cleaners,’ says Molly Maid founder Pam Bader.
‘People don’t realise how much money can be earned in a professional cleaning franchise — our biggest franchisees employ up to 30 people and turn over up to £12,000 weekly.’ Investment is £16,975.
Just about everything can be cleaned. ‘ our franchisees clean waste containers and leave them smelling of cherries,’ says Mark Harvey, managing director of the VIP Bin Cleaning franchise. franchisees use environmentally friendly products to clean domestic waste bins and commercial containers for hospitals, restaurants and shopping malls. Investment is £9,995.
