Should Camilla become our Queen?

-

EVERY opportunity is used to vilify Charles and Camilla as the Princess Diana saga is dragged up again (Mail). Charles married the woman he truly loved. What happened to Diana was tragic, but blaming Charles and Camilla is silly. Charles has been a good father and takes his position seriously, backed by Camilla, who stays in the background. Charles is the rightful heir and he and Camilla should be our next King and Queen.

Name and address supplied. Why is there still this aversion towards Camilla becoming queen? Someone should replay the tape in which the two young princes say they are happy with her, but also that the lady made their father happy, too. As for ‘skipping over’ Charles in the order of succession to make William our next King, certainly not! Things should take their natural course, as has been the case over the centuries.

ALAN H. CLARK, Goffs Oak, Herts. HOW insulting to women in their mid60s to late-70s to say Camilla is a style icon for older woman. Maybe mid80s, but that would insult the Queen. I’m 67, wear leather trousers, kneelength denim skirts and am told I look at least ten years younger — without the ‘help’ of a frumpy marriage wrecker who dresses with no style. As for whether she could be known as Princess Consort when Charles is King, forget it. It’s possible I won’t be around when William becomes King and can pay homage to his mother by erecting a statue of her, which should have been done already.

ANNIE WALTERS, Cheltenham, Glos. The reason many people don’t want Camilla as Queen is she is too much like Mrs Simpson in the Thirties. Both took over weak but spoiled men and saw off competitors. Most important, both managed to get what they wanted: title, money and a more lavish lifestyle than they would have had with their first husbands. Mrs ROSALIND MOSS,

Bushey Heath, Herts.
