Up for sale, star Ewan’s childhood home
HE is now a multi-millionaire star of screen and stage.
But the childhood home where actor Ewan McGregor’s road to Hollywood began is to be sold.
The Perthshire house where he grew up with mother Carole and father Jim is on the market for £340,000.
McGregor lived there until he was 18, when he left to study at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
His parents, who are both retired teachers, are moving to nearby Crieff, where they taught at exclusive private school Morrison’s Academy.
The actor, who has almost half-amillion followers on Instagram posted the poignant message: ‘Childhood home up for sale in #bonniescotland.’
The three-bedroom bungalow has been extensively extended by the McGregors, whose elder son Colin is a former RAF Tornado pilot and fought in the Gulf War.
Estate agent Irving Geddes, handling the sale of the ‘attractive modern detached villa’ in Keillour, near Methven, say it has panoramic views across open countryside to the Ochil Hills.
The house has a lounge, dining room, kitchen, utility room, bathroom, three bedrooms, a substan- tial family room above the garage and half an acre of garden.
Yesterday Mrs McGregor, whose brother is the renowned Scottish actor Denis Lawson, confirmed they were not leaving the area, but moving to nearby Crieff.
Trainspotting star McGregor – who lives in Los Angeles – recently disclosed that his retirement dream is a but’n’ben in Scotland where he wants to grow old, surrounded by his family and a flock of sheep. He posted a picture of his paradise spot, a whitewashed cottage on a hill overlooking Crieff.
But there is little immediate chance of a move home. It was recently announced he is to direct his first movie, American Pastoral.
