JOANNA: ‘THEY SPOIL THE VIEW’

- By Dawn Thompson

SHE has already forged a reputation as a formidable campaigner on behalf of the Gurkhas.

Now actress Joanna Lumley has trained her sights on the massive expansion in the wind turbines that surround her Scottish retreat in Penpont, Dumfriesshire.

Miss Lumley told the June issue of Country Living magazine that the proliferation of the huge structures had spoilt the view from her cottage, which she described as ‘a kind of paradise’.

She said: ‘I’m anxious about how many more wind turbines our wild areas can take.

‘Looking from the highest hill in my bit of Scotland, there are wind turbines in every direction – very few of which are actually turning – and the view of distant hills and peaceful valleys is spoilt for everyone.

‘Water power, that’s what we want for Scotland. I would put wind turbines along motorways, as they’re ugly and noisy already.’
