Oops! Krishnan called Faisal by Ukip deputy
UKIP’s deputy chairman was embarrassed yesterday after calling TV host Krishnan GuruMurthy the wrong name.
Suzanne Evans accidentally addressed the Channel 4 News interviewer as Faisal while talking about racism.
When he asked if racists were welcome to vote Ukip, she said it was unfair to ‘talk about Ukip in conjunction with racism’ and suggested he would not ask other politicians the same question.
But when he pressed her to answer, she said: ‘I think it’s a very unfair question Faisal and what I have consistently...’ – at which point he said: ‘I’m Krishnan for a start.’
She apologised and said she had confused him with former Channel 4 economics editor Faisal Islam, with whom she had spoken earlier.
Miss Evans also told Sky News she would step in as leader if Nigel Farage quit over his recurring back injury. She said: ‘Of course I would, yes. But he’s going to win.’
