Here’s me at my 40th! Becks joins Instagram (… just in time to show off his £250k party)
AT AN exclusive hotel 2,000 miles from home, it was an opportunity for David Beckham to relax and mark a milestone birthday with his nearest and dearest.
But Brand Beckham, it seems, never takes a day off.
In the midst of his 40th birthday celebrations, David Beckham found time to join photo-sharing website Instagram and post a series of pictures over 24 hours that saw him acquire nearly four million followers.
And the former England football captain – who was staying at the Amanjena resort near Marrakesh, Morocco, with wife Victoria, 41, and their four children – left fans in no danger of missing any detail of his star-studded party, reported to have cost £250,000.
The guest list included Strictly host Claudia Winkleman, 43; TV chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana; actress
‘Can’t wait to share special moments’
Eva Longoria, 40; and hairdresser Jason Collier, who no doubt helped ensure tresses were camera-ready.
Mrs Beckham’s former Spice Girls bandmates Melanie Chisholm, 41, Emma Bunton, 39, and Geri Halliwell, 42, also made an appearance, although Melanie Brown, 39, was absent. It was left to Miss Longoria to take her place, dubbing herself ‘Latina Spice’ in pictures posted on Instagram.
Beckham’s social media blitz began first thing on Saturday when he shared an early morning snap of himself from his bed, writing: ‘It’s great to finally be on Instagram, been a long time coming but I can’t wait to start sharing all my special moments with you.’
It signalled the start of a day which included a camel ride with his sons and being given four red velvet birthday cakes – one each from children Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, Cruz, ten, and Harper, three – before the Arabian-themed revelries, which did not end until 7am on Sunday.
The steady flow of pictures on Instagram throughout it all suggested Beckham’s birthday was deliberately chosen to ensure his arrival on the site would attract maximum attention and provide a boost for Brand Beckham.
Sources said Mrs Beckham – who coined the hashtag #DB40 in her own Twitter posts about the celebrations – kept a close eye on the photographs that were sent out.
