Lib Dems put an unappetising dish on their menu

-

A READER shares with me an email he has received from Paddy Ashdown, former leader of the Liberal Democrats.

This promises that ‘anyone who makes any donation between now and Monday night can win the chance to have dinner with Hugh Grant’.

Ashdown quotes Grant (right) as saying: ‘I am not a Lib Dem, a Tory, a Labourite or anything in particular, but I recognise political guts when I see it (sic).

‘And I know Nick Clegg was prepared to stand up to t he Tories when t hey wanted to ignore or water down the Leveson Report . . .’ Adds Grant [in the email]: ‘I can bore to death any lucky winner of this draw on the detail of the Leveson Report and effect of Section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013. ‘Or we can just talk about me and all my problems.’ Ashdown concludes: ‘So there you go. It really couldn’t be simpler. If you make a donation to the Lib Dems between now and Monday evening, you and a friend could win the chance to go to dinner with Hugh Grant . . Hugh is looking forward to seeing you.’

Which is less appealing? Listening to Hugh talking about the Crime and Courts Act, or hearing about his problems?

Personally, I might agree to make a donation if Paddy joins the dinner and the conversation is not about politics.

Perhaps he and Hugh, men of the world, could discuss their problems, past and present, no holds barred. Their insights on how best to handle women might justify my Lib Dem donation.
