This Celtic side is best I’ve played in, claims Kris

KRIS COMMONS toasted Celtic’s fourth successive league title by declaring the current team the best he has ever played in. Ronny Deila’s men got over the winning line when Aberdeen lost at Tannadice on Saturday — the day after Celtic blitzed Dundee 5-0. And, with next season’s Champions League qualifiers already on the horizon, Commons believes the squad has now eclipsed that which beat Barcelona in 2012. ‘I think the squad is good enough to get into the Champions League,’ he said. ‘This is now a better squad than when we got to the last 16 two seasons ago. ‘Man for man, we have huge talent in this dressing room despite losing a lot of guys. ‘I still think we’re in a very good place. The fine line at the top level is that all 11 guys need to be at that level. ‘We can’t have six or seven playing well and the others not quite at it. ‘If we have everyone on top form, then we can match anyone in Europe. We have proved that.’ Deila’s appointment last summer triggered a period of uncertainty around the club, with the Norwegian’s change in style taking some time to bear fruit. With the transitional period now over, though, Commons believes the side will only go from strength to strength. ‘Last year, there were too many things that went against us,’ he said. ‘A new manager with new players and new backroom staff was trying to do things all at once and it was all too soon. ‘We are definitely in a better place than we were last year. We haven’t got a new manager, we haven’t got any new backroom staff and there is nothing that has changed a great deal.’
