Dear Jacob and Honor,

-

I KNOW Mummy has been away for a long time but it brings me comfort to know you are being well looked after by your Grannies and Grandpas back home on the island, where it is so beautiful and you can always see the sea.

Jacob, you might remember Mummy having to take special medicine for most of last year.

You were only two years old and your sister was still in my tummy.

I couldn’t lift you or play with you as much and that made me sad. We didn’t know what the matter was and we thought it might go away when your baby sister was born, but I just felt worse and worse.

In the end, I was told that I have funny blood and that I’m very sick, and that I had to go to hospital on the mainland to be looked after. The nice doctors and nurses here are giving me more special medicine, which is helping. Now they’re looking for a kind person who is happy to give me an amazing gift – the ‘stem cells’ which live in their blood.

Once the charity Anthony Nolan finds my superhero, their blood cells will be put inside me to make me well again, and I’ll be able to come home and play with you both.

It is so hard being away from you – I haven’t seen either of you for over two months and it devastates me every day.

Jacob, I feel I don’t know your sister, as she was only a few weeks old when I had to leave her, but I know whatever happens you will be the best big brother ever and that you’re even looking after Daddy and Granny and Grandpa back on the island.

My baby girl - I love you, and I am so sad I am missing you grow.

My only hope is that you can both forgive me for being away. A mother should be with her children and I hope that I can get that chance soon once we find our superhero donor who will bring our little family back together again.

I love you both more than words can say.

Mummy xxx
