Hollywood star finally eats his cereal as tribute to cancer fight filmmaker

- By Jenny Kane

WITH five seconds on the screen and no lines to learn, it was hardly his most demanding role.

But Hollywood superstar Ryan Gosling has paid a quirky online tribute to a young Scottish filmmaker who died of cancer.

Ryan McHenry documented his battle with the disease on camera – but won an award for creating Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal. The hilarious footage, posted on the Vine website, was seen by millions.

The clips showed the Edinburgh College of Art graduate holding a spoon up to a television screen and timing Gosling’s on-screen gestures to make it look as if he is refusing to eat cereal.

After being diagnosed with more than a dozen tumours on his lung, Mr McHenry, 27, died this week from bone cancer.

Yesterday, Gosling paid posted a video on Twitter of himself raising his spoon and finally tucking in to his cereal.

He wrote: ‘My heart goes out to all of Ryan McHenry’s family and friends. Feel very lucky to have been a part of his life in some small way.’

Last year Mr McHenry made another hit video from his hospital bed hours after having lung tumours removed. He got friends to bring his equipment to the Golden Jubilee Hospital, Clydebank, Dunbartonshire, and within a few hours of surgery had posted a film about his struggle with cancer.

In it he said: ‘I have had a lot of ideas while I have been in hospital.’

He then made a hilarious clip in which Leonardo DiCaprio appears to fall over after being offered cereal. Mr McHenry said: ‘My friends had to hold the spoon this time because of the scar from my lung operation.’
