Dons dread a McInnes rollicking

- EUAN McARTHUR

HE doesn’t strike you as a man partial to losing his temper, but Derek McInnes has no issue with reading the riot act when necessary. Just ask Andy Considine. He admits the prospect of a rollicking drove Aberdeen towards the injury-time equaliser from Adam Rooney that prevented a third consecutive defeat. Admittedly, McInnes has not had to give his players too many dressing-downs in a season which has seen them push champions Celtic most of the way in the title race. Even with second place already secured, they refused to accept defeat after Luka Tankulic had opened the scoring for the Dundee. But Considine revealed that McInnes would have torn a few strips off them had they lost. ‘The gaffer wouldn’t have been happy if we had lost three in a row — we would have got our heads ripped off,’ said the defender. ‘We haven’t done that during his time in charge and he is rightly proud of that. ‘The boys need to respect the manager. Having that fiery side to him shows he cares. ‘Thankfully, Adam came up with the goal at the end. The boys have been fantastic this season. They’ve really dug in when things got tough. ‘When there’s nothing to play for, it’s still a real test. There’s a real pride in pulling on that Aberdeen shirt and you always have to give 100 per cent .’ The Dons are now focusing on next season and how they can push Celtic even closer. ‘Getting 75 points is a huge achievement,’ added Considine. ‘It would be a great send-off for our fans to get another three points in the final game at Pittodrie next week.’
