Fir Park strikers set for exit
MOTHERWELL are facing the decimation of their strike force — just hours after securing Premiership safety. Veteran forward Scott McDonald is a transfer target for ex-Celtic team-mate Gary Caldwell at League One side Wigan. And strike partner Lee Erwin is close to completing a move to Leeds United on a three-year-deal. Out of contract this summer, Erwin, 21, informed the Fir Park club of his intentions following Sunday’s tempestuous Play-Off Final triumph over Rangers. Motherwell will rake in a development fee of around £450,000 for the player, but will regard his loss as a savage blow. Erwin was involved in a post-match battle, pushing Bilel Mohsni after his handshake was rejected at full-time and receiving a kick and punch in response. Erwin, Mohsni and unused Motherwell sub Fraser Kerr were subsequently sent off by Craig Thomson in the tunnel, with police now investigating the incident. Sportsmail understands, however, that the highly-rated striker, also linked with Celtic and Sheffield United, will already be a Leeds player by the time police or the SFA consider further sanctions. Talks began on the move before the Rangers tie. Sportsmail understands there is also interest from England in winger Marvin Johnson.
