Mhairi’s in The Garage (but she’s not well-oiled!)

- By Laura Cotton

SHE once called Smirnoff Ice the ‘drink of the gods’ – and described waking up beside half a can of Tennent’s lager as a ‘success’.

Mhairi Black has been open about her drinking antics as a teenager on social media and her comments were quickly picked up by her critics.

However, Britain’s youngest MP has matured since then – and she was on her best behaviour when she went clubbing.

She swapped her office in Westminster for The Garage night club in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow.

Looking remarkably fresh and bright-eyed, the 20-year-old posed for selfies with fellow clubbers.

News of her presence in the Glasgow might-spot quickly spread over social media and she soon became a star attraction.

Chris Kelman, marketing manager at The Garage, said: ‘Mhairi was very pleasant and seemed in jovial spirits as she posed for selfies with fans.’

Being on her best behaviour highlighted a big change in the young politician.

Earlier this year, tweets posted by Miss Black were uncovered in which she boasted of her boozy antics. She posted: ‘Smirnoff Ice is the drink of the gods – I cannae handle this c*** man.’

Another told of how she ‘ woke up beside half a can of Tennent’s and a full pizza and more money than I came out with. I call that a success’.

She also posted tweets abusing Ed Miliband and used colourful language about Celtic.

There was even pressure on Nicola Sturgeon to sack the young SNP election candidate.

Since then, Miss Black has shocked the world of politics by ousting shadow foreign secretary Douglas Alexander from his seat.

On May 7, she overturned his 16,000 majority in Paisley and Renfrewshire South to win by a margin of 5,700 votes.

Last month she graduated from Glasgow University with a firstclass honours degree in politics.

In a recent newspaper interview, she admitted: ‘I will still go to the pub and have a drink with my friends. But you know, you can’t get moroculous – like being sick against a wall or something.’

Her stirring maiden speech in the House of Commons has been viewed online more than ten million times.
