Raring to go in retro … a healthier Cheryl

- By Simon Cable

SHE has admitted her weight has been a cause for concern recently.

But Cheryl Fernandez-Versini showed her private struggles have not knocked her confidence as she arrived at the latest round of X Factor auditions yesterday.

The talent show judge looked healthier than in recent weeks, wearing a retro 1960sstyle floral-print mini dress with a high pink collar and matching pocket on the chest. She teamed the ensemble with a voluminous throwback hairstyle.

The former Girls Aloud singer had showed off an alarmingly slight figure when she arrived for the X Factor’s opening auditions in Manchester a fortnight ago.

She suggested she had been affected by the death of her father-in-law – but critics described her as a ‘bag of bones’. Fellow X Factor judge Simon Cowell has jumped to her defence over her weight loss. The 55-yearold insisted he isn’t concerned about the 32year-old’s slender frame, because she has been ‘eating like a horse’ in recent weeks.

His explanation was that Mrs FernandezVersini’s weight loss was caused by ‘a bug’ – and insisted she hasn’t intentionally been shedding pounds. He said: ‘This is not someone who’s trying to make herself thin.’ He pointed out that she had addressed questions about her weight ‘in a very open way – by saying she is thin and trying to put on weight’.

Singer Rita Ora, 24, and Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, 30, will complete the judging panel for the new series of the ITV talent show.
