Drunk mother on school run
A DRUNK mother who was more than four times over the alcohol limit drove to a primary school to collect her son.
Fiona Kalwa, 53, was banned yesterday after a sheriff told her she had been driving ‘ a guided missile around the streets’.
Sheriff William Wood told Kalwa, pictured: ‘You have a very high reading – and it is an aggravating factor you were on your way to collect your son.’
Perth Sheriff Court was told police were alerted on May 14 over concern at a boy waiting alone outside Oakbank Primary.
Fiscal depute Tina Dickie said when Kalwa drove into the school grounds checks showed her licence was revoked. Police smelled alcohol and a breath test revealed 94 microgrammes of alcohol, the limit being 22.
Her lawyer Alison McKay said she was ‘horrified’ at her conduct. Kalwa, of Errol, Perthshire, was disqualified for two years and ordered to get treatment for alcohol misuse. She must also carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.
