Romps at site of child sex abuse claims

- By Claire Duffin

THE flat where Lord Sewel hosted his drug and sex party is in a building at the centre of the police investigation into a VIP child sex ring.

Officers began l ooking i nto claims last year that for years, prominent figures including VIPs, Whitehall officials and MPs plied young boys from local care homes with alcohol before ferrying them to flats at Dolphin Square where they were abused.

Lord Sewel has a studio apart - ment at the 7.5-acre estate in Pimlico, central London, which is popular with MPs and peers because it is a short walk from Westminster. Close to the Thames, apartments are availa - ble for short or long -term lets. There is also a restaurant, spa and fitness centre.

One victim of the historic abuse allegations, which date back to the Seventies, told police he had visited Dolphin Square at least ten times.

Former home secretary Leon Brittan, who died in January, was accused of hiding a dossier nam - ing eight MPs as members of the sex ring. Cyril Smith, the former Liberal MP, and Sir P eter Morri - son, Margaret Thatcher’s private secretary, have been implicated.

The complex’s website states: ‘If the walls at Dolphin Square could speak, they would reveal a history rich with colourful, distinguished, and sometimes notorious characters. Politicians and peers, spies and foreign dignitaries, glamour girls and stars of stage and screen have all enjoyed the many bene - fits of life at Dolphin Square.’

Previous tenants include former Labour prime minister Harold Wilson, former T ory leader W illiam Hague, P rincess Anne and Christine Keeler, the model at the heart of 1963’s Profumo affair. By the late Eighties, it was home to 51 MPs and 16 peers. Lord Sewel leases his flat on the eighth floor jointly with his wife, Lady Jenni - fer, 54, so he has somewhere to stay while at the House of Lords.

Sparsely furnished, with an oldfashioned TV and a single daybed against the wall, Sewel’s flat is one of 1,250 built in 1937 for those ‘notable in public life or society’.

In the footage filmed at the flat, he claimed to have slept with 13 women at the studio, including a Labour member with whom he had an affair . He boasted about living in the same flats as Keeler, and said: ‘ A Tory MP was found dead in his flat. I think he stran - gled himself to get a sexual high.’
