Three killed and one hurt in horrific road crashes

THREE people have been killed and another is fighting for his life in hospital after three crashes on Scotland’s roads.

A 52-year-old man died after a van and lorry were involved in a horrific smash on the M74.

The victim was a passenger in a Vauxhall Combo van which collided with a Mercedes articulate­d lorry on the northbound carriagewa­y, near Junction 17 at Lockerbie, Dumfriessh­ire, shortly before 5pm on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old male van driver was injured and had to be cut free from the wreckage.

He was taken by ambulance to Glasgow’s Western Infirmary, where his condition is said to be ‘serious’.

Both the driver and a male passenger in the lorry were uninjured in the accident, which closed the main Scotland-England road link for several hours.

In Edinburgh, a 20-year-old man has died after his car crashed into a wall and overturned in the city’s Colinton Road. The man was driving his Mercedes A200 near the roundabout at Oxgangs Road North when the accident occurred on Tuesday at around 12.45am.

The vi ctim was t aken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment but died from his injuries early on Wednesday.

Police Scotland in Aberdeen have said that an American driver of a silver Porsche sports car hurt in a collision at the weekend has died. John Stevens, 30, who lived i n Aberdeen, but was f rom Houston, Texas, suffered serious injuries following an accident on the B976 Birse to Finzean road south-west of the city.
