Would Jeremy Corbyn be good for Labour?

-

IT WAS refreshing to see your correspondent’s support for Jeremy Corbyn’s plea for more state ownership (Letters). More people might regard this unusual politician in a more favourable light if they’d had personal dealings with him. I help to run a group that aids people suffering severe damage from medical mishaps. Over 25 years we have received hundreds of letters from MPs giving the same response, along the lines of: ‘Plenty like you, anything else we can help with?’ With Jeremy, it was different. He was able to put politics aside, quickly absorb the essence of our problems and invest time and expertise in trying to find solutions. After accompanying us to deliver a letter to No 10, he took about a dozen of us for breakfast. One of our supporters — a Right-wing MP — remarked Jeremy had ‘too much humanity’ to escape the backbenches. Perhaps it’s time for a ‘people person’ to lead us.

IF JEREMY CORBYN is elected as Labour’s leader, the longest suicide note in history will be out-done at the next election.

ANDREW PETTIGREW, Thornton Cleveleys, Lancs. IT’S BEEN interesting to listen to Jeremy Corbyn during Labour’s leadership contest. Unlike his rivals, there has been no Tory-bashing or cheap political point-scoring, just his agenda of ideas put over rationally and calmly. How refreshing.

GRAHAM WATSON, Upminster, Essex.

SHOULD Jeremy Corbyn become Labour’s leader, and George Osborne the Conservatives’, we will be back to Old Politics. That is, Left-wing Old Labour and Right-wing Old Tories. This will leave a massive centre ground. I suggest all those from those two parties who have no wish to be extremists join the Liberals. Britain needs to be united, and being a Liberal is the best way to achieve that.

RICHARD GRANT, Ringwood, Hants.
