STEWART TARGETS TONIC OF TANNADICE WIN

- By BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

GREG STEWART is hoping to lead Dundee to their first derby win at Tannadice in 11 years to make amends for Saturday’s second-half horror show against Hearts. Paul Hartley’s men played the Tynecastle side off the park but went in at the break only 1-0 up through Kane Hemmings. Two second-half goals from Spanish striker Juanma then secured an unlikely win for Robbie Neilson’s men and served as a wake-up call for an ‘overconfident’ Dundee. But Stewart (right) knows the best way to bounce back is by scoring a rare win at the home of their city foes tomorrow for the first time since a penalty from Steve Lovell and a goal from John Sutton secured victory in August 2004, despite a 90th-minute Alan Archibald goal for United. ‘We just didn’t turn up in the second half and you don’t get away with that in this league,’ said Stewart. ‘Last week our manager said we put in the perfect performance, winning 4-0 at Kilmarnock, and maybe we were too confident going into this game. ‘But we need to learn from this and move on to the derby on Tuesday. You always want to do well in derby games for the fans. ‘We managed to get that first win over United in 11 years at home last season but we still haven’t won at Tannadice for so long. ‘This can be the kick up the backside we need and, hopefully, we can give the fans something back.’ United have been favourites for years in the derby but Stewart believes this contest is too close to call. ‘They are

at home but I would say we have got an even chance,’ said the 25-year-old striker. ‘If we play as we did against Kilmarnock, and the first half against Hearts, then I’m confident we can take three points. ‘But we aren’t worrying about trying to finish above United. ‘We just want to do better than last season and maybe even push for Europe.’
