Jailed, the vicious Facebook troll who targeted Mikaeel and Maddie

- By Rory Cassidy

A FACEBOOK troll who mocked the death of toddler Mikaeel Kular in a racist rant was jailed yesterday.

Jamie Milligan also made comments about Madeline McCann and threatened to rape a friend during the vile outbursts.

Milligan, 26, posted the offensive remarks on January 17 last year, while police and the public were still searching for threeyear-old Mikaeel.

The toddler had been murdered by his mother, rosdeep Adekoya, 35, and was missing at the time. On Milligan’s page, which was open to members of the public to view, he wrote: ‘To the wee boy that died – get it up ye ya wee p***, I woulda done the same if I had a kid haha yas.’

When several of Milligan’s Facebook

friends ‘ voiced their displeasure’, he replied: ‘I don’t care if the polis see this.’

When a female Facebook user replied ‘so many twisted people out there’, Milligan claimed to have battered his mother, ex-girlfriend and grandmother.

Again a woman expressed her disgust at Milligan’s comments and he responded by making comments about raping Madeleine McCann, who went missing on a family holiday in Portugal in 2007.

Milligan later insisted he was only joking and blamed his outbursts on the fact he has Asperger’s Syndrome – a form of autism.

Milligan was arrested and charged on January 21 last year and ‘sobbed uncontrollably’ when interviewed by police, telling officers: ‘I’m not the type of person that would rape someone. I know it’s wrong.

‘I’m not on Facebook any more, I’ve shut it down.’

When he appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court last month, Milligan pleaded guilty to two charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive way by posting offensive comments on Facebook.

he admitted making racist remarks about the death of Mikaeel Kular and threatening to rape one of his friends.

he also pleaded guilty to spitting in the face of one of the court’s custody officers while being held in the cells.

When he returned to the dock yesterday, his lawyer, Gordon ritchie, said Milligan had an anger management problem and would be a target for other criminals if he were jailed.

The defence solicitor said: ‘This is a boy who has very serious problems but they cannot be used indefinitely to explain his conduct or justify or minimise his actions.’

he asked Sherif f Tom McCartney to make Milligan the subject of a Community Payback Order with ‘a lengthy period of supervision’ so he could receive help f or his difficulties. The sheriff rejected this plea.

As he j ailed Milligan, of Paisley, renfrewshire, for 160 days, the sheriff said: ‘There was a racial aggravation and there was a threat of serious sexual violence.

‘Messages of that kind cannot be tolerated in any circumstances and the fact they are put on a social media site cannot be allowed to provide any shield or protection.

‘The offence of assault by spitting is in itself offensive but is made worse by the fact it was committed in this building. Only imprisonment is appropriate.’
