A blind girl on my birthday cake? No, we asked for a blonde girl!

- Daily Mail Reporter

THE icing was perfectly smooth, the decorations elegant and wording spot-on.

There was only one thing wrong with the birthday cake Marie Seggie had ordered for her daughter Laura’s 21st – the mystifying presence of a little blind girl made of icing sitting on the top.

The family were baffled by the figure, which was even holding a white stick, until 52-year-old Mrs Seggie checked the iPhone text message she had sent to a friend who made the cake.

It turned out that her request for it to have ‘a wee blond girl on top’ representing her daughter had been automatically corrected to ‘a wee blind girl’ by the phone’s software.

The blunder was spotted when the friend delivered the cake to the family’s home in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, on Friday.

Laura’s sister Emily, 17, then took a photo of the cake and posted it on Twitter, where it was retweeted and shared thousands of times by people all over the world.

Emily said: ‘It was one of my mum’s friends that made the cake for Laura. At the last minute, mum texted her and asked her to put a wee blonde figure on top. When we got the cake on Friday, mum called us in and asked us if we could see anything wrong with it.

‘We were a bit confused why there was a blind girl on top but then mum told us the mistake she had made with autocorrect. Thankfully we all saw the funny side, including mum’s friend.

‘We were going to take it off because we weren’t sure if it would be seen as offensive but decided to keep it in the end.’

Mrs Seggie, a school worker, said: ‘Hopefully next time I ask for a blonde girl on Laura’s cake my iPhone won’t autocorrect it to “wee blind girl”. I must say it has given everyone such a laugh.’
