Sarcastic Cara a TV turn-off for Prince Charming
IT was a painfully awkward interview with a US morning TV show that went viral online, showing Cara Delevingne rolling her eyes and giving sarcastic answers.
But despite her later saying the hosts just didn’t ‘understand sarcasm or the British sense of humour’, Scots actor Richard Madden has branded the model-turned-actress ‘unprofessional’ for the way she behaved.
Cinderella star Madden, 29, of Elderslie, Renfrewshire, spoke out after 23-year-old Miss Delevingne’s live interview with Good Day Sacramento to promote her role in new movie Paper Towns.
When the hosts asked her questions such as, ‘Did you read the book?’, she sarcastically replied: ‘Eh no, I never read the book or the script. Actually, I kind of winged it.’
As the interview became increasingly uncomfortable, one presenter told Miss Delevingne that she seemed ‘a bit irritated’, asking: ‘Perhaps it’s just us?’ She replied: ‘No, I think it’s just you.’
‘She was in a mood!’ one of the anchors shouted as soon as the star was out of sight, while another remarked: ‘But still – you make five million dollars for six weeks’ worth of work, you can pretend to talk to Good Day Sacramento with some umph.’
After a clip of the July interview went viral, Miss Delevingne defended herself, saying the hosts had misunderstood her humour.
But Madden – who rose to fame in Game of Thrones, played Prince Charming in this year’s Cinderella movie and is now starring as Oliver Mellors in the BBC dramati- sation of Lady Chatterley’s Lover – said she should be polite as part of her job.
He told Style magazine: ‘It was unprofessional. It made her seem ungrateful. She showed her age. For Cinderella, I did six weeks of those interviews, where you get asked the same eight questions.’
He added that if she could not show good manners, perhaps acting was not for her, observing: ‘If you’re not capable of doing that gracefully, then don’t do it.’
