The return of Rollermania! Comeback night is a sellout

- By Gavin Madeley

THEY may be getting Shang-a-Lang in the tooth but the Bay City Rollers proved they can still draw a crowd after selling out their comeback gig in the time it takes to sing their best-known hit.

Rollermania, which swept the world 40 years ago, was back after 1,900 tickets for their reunion concert at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom on December 20 sold out in three minutes.

Such was the demand that organisers added a second night, only to see all those tickets snapped up in 30 minutes.

And the clamour for tartan tickets was such that Les McKeown, 59, Stuart ‘Woody’ Wood, 58, and 6 -year-old Alan Longmuir – three-fifths of the classic 19 0s line-up – are set for not only a third night in December but a fourth Christmas gig.

Soon after the tickets went on sale at 9am, promoter Mark Mackie of Regular Music tweeted: ‘Stunning response... Rollermania is very much alive and well.’ Longmuir said: ‘It’s like going back in time and it will be fun.

‘We have never lost our female fanbase. They are very passion- ate and we have a few new ones now too.’

McKeown said: ‘I think it is going to be great.’
