Man missing after golf resort blaze

-

A MAN is missing after a luxury lodge was destroyed in a fire at an exclusive golf resort.

Last night concern was growing for a man who is believed to have gone to the Piperdam resort in Fowlis, Angus, in the early hours of Thursday, shortly before the cabin caught fire.

Police are investigating reports he had been dropped off in a taxi shortly before the blaze and last night the man remained missing.

Guests staying in the lodge were not in the cabin when the fire broke out and when fire crews initially attended the scene, all guests had been accounted for.

But last night police dogs were sent to check the burnt-out lodge after the man, described as being in his twenties, was spotted by CCTV cameras as he entered the lodge.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said it was still being treated as a missing persons inquiry but officers are increasingly concerned the man may still be inside the lodge.

Resort owner Phil Mulholland said: ‘We are shocked about what has happened.’
