£37,000 ‘is the perfect salary’
A SALARY of £37,000 is the ‘tipping point’ at which we start weighing up a pay rise against the pressure of greater responsibility, a poll found.
Nine in ten Britons (91 per cent) believe there is a point where more money simply is not worth the stress.
And while the average worker wants to earn at least £24,270 a year to be comfortable, anything over £37,396 has to be considered carefully.
Some 88 per cent of the 2,000 people questioned said they would turn down a more senior role if it was likely to have a negative impact on their work-life balance.
Two thirds also admitted they had thought about taking a pay cut to improve their quality of life.
Lucie Illingworth, of Anchor Cheddar, which commissioned the research, said: ‘Richness ultimately doesn’t depend on the size of your bank balance. What truly makes people rich is loved ones and life outside the office.’
