LIGHT FANTASTIC!

Woodland venue offers show that’s out of this world

- By Fiona McKay

EXPLORE the stunning autumnal setting of Faskally Wood, near Pitlochry in beautiful Highland Perthshire, and see it i n an entirely new light. Using the woodland as a natural backdrop, with dazzling visuals and an original music score, you will experience a sound and light show that is out of this world at the multi awardwinning Enchanted Forest.

Taking place from today until November 1, it is renowned as Scotland’s premier outdoor sound and light experience.

This year’s show, named FLUX – Illuminating Nature, is all about movement, waves and energy, but you’ll need to book tickets and head along from tonight onwards, to see what that all means.

Aerial artists All or Nothing will be returning to the forest to perform amid the tree tops. Be prepared to be impressed with their gravity-defying antics.

Another favourite, back by popular demand and ideal for all the family, is The Enchanted Storytelling Yurt, which will be on site with storytellers Claire and Lindsey, entrancing the crowds with their wistful and magical tales.

The event has even been immortalised in international literature, thanks to the latest romantic fiction by US-based writer A Louise Robertson. Chained To Mineola features The Enchanted Forest as the ultimate meeting place for the novel’s hero and heroine.

It follows the story of environmental campaigner Carly Eubanks, whose quest to save the environment brings her from Mineola in Texas, by way of California to Pitlochry, where she encounters the Enchanted Forest a nd Duncan, a handsome electrician.

The novel’s author visited the event from New York in 2014, and was so taken with how the forest looked and the feelings it evoked she chose to make it a key backdrop for Carly and Duncan’s love story.

As we head further into autumn, remember to wear warm clothes and footwear. If you’re feeling peckish or need to warm up, there’s great catering on hand serving mulled wine, hot chocolate and tempting hot snacks.

Getting to the event is easy. Just take the short drive from Perth up the A9 to Pitlochry and park in town centre car parks. Shuttle buses leaving directly from the Fisher’s Hotel on Atholl Road in Pitlochry (shuttle bus transfer is included in ticket cost) will then take you to Faskally Wood.

The shuttle departure point is a two-minute walk from Pitlochry railway station, with regular services connecting from Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness, Dundee and Newcastle. As the Enchanted Forest is likely to be popular, visitors must remember to purchase tickets in advance.

There is no vehicular access to the event site, except for Blue Badge holders, and the event is accessible and suitable f or wheelchair users. To find out more and book your tickets go to www.enchantedforest.org.uk.

If you plan to visit Perthshire for the Enchanted Forest, why not extend your stay and enjoy the wonderful musical culture of the area at another autumnal highlight, Perthshire Amber – The Dougie MacLean Festival?

Running from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 8, enjoy music sessions, workshops, talks and l ots more during this must-visit festival.
