Mother’s horror at her cut-up body
JURORS were also reduced to tears when Becky’s mother Tanya Watts told the court that she is haunted by having seen her daughter’s body bandaged back together in the mortuary.
Becky’s killers had dismembered her corpse using a power saw and wrapped up the parts in cling wrap, bags and tape.
In a victim impact statement, Miss Watts said: ‘I never thought it would be like this. My beautiful, kind, funny, loving, loyal, feisty, creative daughter has been murdered.
‘Every day has been a living nightmare and, if that wasn’t bad enough, for some reason that I will never be able to understand, after my daughter was murdered she was mutilated – cut into pieces.
‘It is like the worst of all horror movies – but this is real. I don’t want to remember Becky like this but the thought of her dismemberment is always at the forefront of my mind.’
Miss Watts said she had been frightened to visit Becky at the mortuary – at Flax Bourton near Bristol – ‘after she was treated in such a barbaric way’.
She said she managed to make the trip thanks to the ‘really hard’ work of the staff there.
‘I will say that the impact of seeing Becky reduced my mum to tears,’ she added. ‘This is the only time I have seen her so visibly upset.’
She added: ‘Those people involved in Becky’s murder and dismemberment left us with a lifetime of emptiness, continuing memories of her last moments, continuing nightmares and a grave to visit.’
