Castle rescued by I’m A Celeb

ROYAL author Lady Colin Campbell raised eyebrows this week when she explained her reason for going into the I’m A Celebrity jungle was to ‘help with the roof at the castle’. Friends of Lady C — to whom she is known as Georgie — were surprised since they always knew her to live in a modest house in Kennington, South London.

However, it emerges that the flamboyant socialite secretly bought Castle Goring in West Sussex 18 months ago, for a cut-price £700,000.

The Grade I listed building — whose new owner had been a mystery until now — had been in the Somerset family since 1847, but they decided to sell when the creaking property’s problems spiralled. The price of becoming Goring’s new chatelaine is hefty. Lady C will need to fork out £2 million on repairs, with the roof work alone expected to cost £50,000.
