Suffragette Suffragette in in need need of of votes votes

SO MUCH for Carey Mulligan’s initial plan to take it easy following the birth of her daughter Evelyn in October. The 30-year-old actress, who is married to singer Marcus Mumford, has been forced to hit the LA film awards party circuit following the disastrous reception of her film Suffragette in America.

The film has barely made £1million at the U.S. box office, much less than in the UK. The expectation was that it would be a significant force at the Academy Awards but the tepid response has rattled its US distributor Focus and Carey is now having to pull out the stops to try and ensure she gets an Oscar nomination.

It’s all very unedifying. A film chronicling the struggle to get the vote for women is now desperately scrambling to pick up votes from Academy Award members to save face.
