Cipriani charged with drink-driving
ENGLAND fly-half Danny Cipriani has been charged with drinkdriving following an accident before this year’s World Cup. The 28-year-old was arrested in June after crashing his £60,000 Mercedes after his man-of-thematch display against the Barbarians at Twickenham. The Met Police re-bailed the playmaker until after England’s campaign — keeping alive his hopes of selection — but yesterday confirmed he will appear at West London Magistrates’ Court on December 10. Cipriani was breathalysed following the 5am collision with a Toyota in Chelsea, before being taken to a police station. Despite impressing in the warmup matches, the Sale No 10 was left out of Stuart Lancaster’s 31-man World Cup squad after a training-ground row with assistant coach Mike Catt. Cipriani has previously faced lengthy England absences due to off-field issues. In 2008 he was dropped for visiting a nightclub during a Six Nations week, and in 2013, he was hospitalised after stepping out in front of a bus during a night out in Leeds.
