Wales are downed by Dutch

-

WALES may be buoyant after qualifying for Euro 2016 but they fell to defeat last night against a Dutch side who will be staying at home next summer. Wales manager Chris Coleman had to deal with an injury list that included key men Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, who were both unavailable. But despite equalising twice, the hosts couldn’t earn a draw. The Dutch took the lead after 32 minutes thanks to some neat play. Bas Dost flicked the ball on to Quincy Promes before he ran to the back post to get on the end of Daryl Janmaat’s cross. Dost headed home from close range despite the best efforts of Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey. However, the hosts equalised just before half-time via the penalty spot. Terence Kongolo handled Ben Davies’ shot and although Jasper Cillessen saved Joe Allen’s spot-kick, Joe Ledley reacted to find the bottom corner. Holland’s second goal arrived nine minutes after the break when Arjen Robben curled a wonderful shot beyond Hennessey to score his 29th international goal. Wales responded again thanks to Emyr Huws’ fantastic header. However, Robben struck with nine minutes remaining to seal the win.
