CBI boss ad­mits some firms want a Brexit


THE first fe­male di­rec­tor gen­eral of the CBI ad­mit­ted some mem­bers want Bri­tain to leave the Euro­pean Union – but in­sisted the ma­jor­ity of firms want to re­main in, pro­vided the UK gov­ern­ment can se­cure re­forms.

Carolyn Fair­bairn said the busi­ness lobby group – which has a rep­u­ta­tion for be­ing pro-Euro­pean lis­tens to and ‘re­spects’ the views of mem­bers who favour a Brexit, or Bri­tish de­par­ture from the EU.

She added that the CBI would con­sult its mem­bers once the Gov­ern­ment had ne­go­ti­ated re­forms on bet­ter trade deals, re­duced reg­u­la­tion and fair treat­ment for coun­tries such as the UK that are not part of the sin­gle cur­rency.
