THE energy company SSE lets the cameras in for a new series, which starts inside Ferrybridge C, a coal-fired power station with a control room that resembles a Bond villain’s lair (it was built in the Sixties). What happens when the country needs more power than it, and SSE’s other plants, can generate? Traders ‘buy in’ electricity to make up the shortfall, sometimes just 90 minutes ahead of when they predict that it’s needed. Surely that seems to be cutting it a bit fine . . .
