Labour too ‘addicted to leadership contests’

LABOUR is addicted to leadership plots and will not be competitiv­e in Scotland for at least a decade, a former senior aide has claimed.

Paul Sinclair, who advised Johann Lamont when she was leader, said he believes Corbynista­s are already plotting to oust Kezia Dugdale.

Left-wing members inflicted an embarrassi­ng defeat on Miss Dugdale by voting against the replacemen­t of Trident at the Scottish party conference.

‘And this dependence goes back decades.

‘Already there are dark mutterings about whether it will be Neil Findlay or Alex Rowley who takes on Anas Sarwar for the leadership following the May elections.’

He added: ‘It will take the Scottish Labour Party at least two elections to become competitiv­e again. It still has lower to go.

‘However, if the party members spent half as much time plotting the downfall of the SNP as they do that of whoever is their leader, Labour wouldn’t be 30 points behind at the moment.’

An SNP spokesman said: ‘As long as Labour continue to spend all their time squabbling amongst themselves and carping from the sidelines, more and more people will place their trust in an SNP government that is delivering for Scotland.’
